The flexor hallucis longus stretch test evaluates for dancers tendonitis and trigger toe. With the ankle in plantarflexion, assess the full range of motion of the first metatarsophalangeal joint. The examiner then moves the ankle into dorsiflexion by applying pressure to the metatarsal heads and attempts to dorsiflex the first MTPJ.
